WHERE THE MONEY GOES
The current Food For Life Kitchen, located in Albert Park, is approximately 40 years old and has been expanded many times over the years. Due to the adhoc nature of these expansions, the kitchen is small, under-equipped, inefficiently laid-out, and at maximum capacity. Current poverty rates in Australia are on the rise. Basing their findings on the Australian Bureau of Statistics for 2012, the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) revealed in its latest national poverty report that more than 600,000 children, and one third of children in single parent families, lived below the poverty line. The report confirmed that 13.7% of Melburnians live below the poverty line. This makes Food for Life’s work more important than ever.
We have a host of plans to help feed those in need. It is not about hand-outs, it is about lending a hand to our neighbours. It is the right thing to do.
